I can’t believe I made it!

It’s still impossible to believe that I made a gorgeous linen kimono in one class! Lissa is an incredible teacher — her kind, friendly demeanor, relaxed attitude, and simple-to-follow instructions made this class a total joy. After a brief overview on how the kimono was fabricated, we plunged headlong into making the pattern from scratch, one simple step at a time. Within minutes, I was zooming along on the serger machine, hemming my seams, and pinning pattern pieces together, all underneath Lissa’s watchful eyes. It was totally absorbing work — and yet not intimidating at all, even for a newbie like me. Our five hour class seemed like it took only minutes — I guess that’s what “being in the zone” is. At every step, Lissa was there to look at our work, and make teeny adjustments if need be, but even during her guidance, she always made sure that WE were the ones doing the work (you know how sometimes a teacher will take over? Lissa is not that type of instructor.) I literally look at it hanging in my closet and swell with pride. Take this class!

Excellent, excellent experience with Moving Thread

Excellent, excellent experience with Moving Thread, Lissa, and all of her workshops. After taking the 4-week intro class where we learned how to do a reversible bag, zippered bag, and a pair of pants (!) I fell in love with sewing. Since then, I've taken a bra & panty workshop, a camp shirt workshop, and the kimono workshop. All of her instructors are top notch, patient, and will problem shoot with you. I also really appreciate that she allows you to bring your home sewing machine in so you can learn the skills on your own machine. I couldn't recommend this place more.

Love!

I've taken quite a few classes with Lissa and this, by far, is my favorite! It ties in a lot of the techniques we've learned in other classes (use of the serger, french seams, and as always, clean finishes). There are small customizations such as length and the use of different color thread to match your liking and personality. This kimono is versatile, stylish, and can be worn with almost anything. Loved this class and to top it off, this was the best finished project for me too!
