FAQ

Q: I’m a total beginner with no sewing experience. Where should I start?
A: There are 2 options for beginners students:
    •    Intro to Sewing - 3 hour workshop (if you just want to get your feet wet)
    •    Intro to Sewing 4 week workshop (if you want a broad introduction to sewing)

Q: I’ve sewn a little many years ago, but I don’t feel confident getting back into it on my own. Which workshops would be best for me?
A: Any of the above Intro workshops are a good place for anyone to start or refresh their sewing skills.

Q: My son/daughter wants to learn to sew, which workshops are appropriate for younger students?
A: Most workshops at Moving Thread are prepared for adults. If your child is over 16 years of age, they are welcome to sign up. For under 16’s, take a look at Kids Sewing Workshops and Parent and Child Workshops. Private workshops are also an option.

Q: My friends and I want to take a workshop together. How many students can you accommodate at a time and can we book our own private class?
A: We can take 6-8 students at a time. A private workshop can be booked and scheduled for a specific group.

Q: Where is Moving Thread studio located?
A: 13347 W Washington Blvd, LA 90066 - just outside of Venice beach, near Costco.

Q: Is there easy parking?
A: Plenty of street parking is available. Meters last 2 hours in the neighborhood and can be filled up during class sessions.

Q: I’ve signed up for a class, what do I need to bring?
A: Nothing! We provide all machinery, tools and materials. If you prefer to work on your own sewing machine in class, you are welcome to bring it but please arrive 5 minutes early to set up. Some of the intermediate workshops require you to purchase your own fabrics but workshop descriptions will specify.

Q: Do you offer makeup sessions if I miss a class?
A: We are a small studio with limited capacity and therefore full makeup sessions are not available. If you’ve signed up for a 4 week series and can’t make one session, please let us know in advance. We will do our best to catch you up within the remainder of the series.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: We are a small studio, offering high quality service and limited seats for each class. Much time and effort is needed to prepare each class as we want to make your workshop the best experience for you. In this case, we do not take cancellations and class fees are nonrefundable.
If you have a scheduling conflict and can notify us more than 7 days in advance, we can move your reservation to another date if our schedule allows. Arriving more than 30 minutes late for class counts as a no-show and no make up class will be offered. Please check our Booking and Cancellation Policy for more details.

Q: I've taken a workshop and want to get myself set up at home. What supplies do you recommend?
